Shin Dong Ho from K-pop group U-KISS is your typical idol onstage - cute, photogenic, and with all the right dance moves. But as an actor, the roles he takes on will not drive girls screaming in his direction.
His latest film, <Don't Cry Mommy>, released last month (Nov) in South Korea, saw him play a high school sexual predator who violates a student Eun Ah (actress Nam Bo Ra), who commits suicide.
The singer-actor will next be seen in new Korean drama Holyland, in which he plays an awkward teenager Kang Yoo who finds solace in boxing. The drama, which is based on a Japanese martial arts manga series of the same name, premieres tomorrow (Dec 5).
In an e-mail interview, Shin, 18, describes his character in Holyland as "kind of shy and dark" - which is nothing like what he is like in real life.
"Kang Yoo is a shy outsider both at home and in society. He teaches himself boxing, using an old boxing textbook. We don't have a lot in common.
"I've always been happy and a good boy although I don't know what my parents will say about it."
